Contemporary wine cellars sit between two worlds. They borrow the clean geometry and glass of modern design, then soften it with natural wood, warm lighting and finishes chosen to match the rooms around them. For nearly three decades we have designed and built contemporary wine cellars for private residences across North America, each one manufactured in-house and engineered to hold the collection at the correct temperature and humidity for decades.
Our experience with high-caliber partners reflects our commitment to excellence and our ability to meet the exacting standards of High-end Residential Properties, Championship Golf & Country Clubs, Distinguished Hotels, Michelin Star Restaurants, Premier Casinos, Resorts, and Platinum Clubs of the World.
A contemporary wine cellar belongs in the living spaces of the home, designed to be seen from the dining room or great room rather than hidden below it.

Contemporary wine cellar design is defined by balance. Horizontal racking in walnut or white oak sits beside floating cable or metal displays; a glass wall keeps the collection in view while a solid feature wall gives the room weight. The result is a cellar that reads as current without feeling cold, and that will still look right as the rest of the home evolves. Every cellar we build is drawn to the room, the bottle count and the way the collection will be used.
The Genuwine Cellars Architectural Series embodies a bespoke design and engineering mastery, meticulously tailored to incorporate existing racking or create an entirely new design based on your requirements. Only a few projects qualify for the Architectural Series. It is your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a truly unique one-of-a-kind wine cellar.
Cable wine collections captivate the imagination by making bottles appear as if they are floating in the air. The elegant interplay of light and shadow, the clean lines of minimalist architecture, and the finest wine cellaring traditions all come together to make these collections a true work of art and a stunning centerpiece in your home.
The Cube's linear elegance exudes simplicity while embodying the marvel of complex engineering. Its sleek, refined, linear form enhances your collection's visibility. Designed for the discerning collectors in mind, The Cube captivates the eye and reflects the refined tastes of its owner.
The signature, one-of-a-kind Genuwine Cellars collection fully embodies our core value of "Anything is Possible." The Q-Curve makes a bold statement, transforming versatile bottle storage into a sculptural centerpiece with its smooth, curved racks.
Inspired by the fusion of contemporary design and natural elegance, Genuwine’s Label Ladder seamlessly combines the sleekness of metal with the organic beauty of wood. It is ideal for placement in front of glass walls or as a striking centerpiece in the middle of the room.
The Label Link is the gold standard for wine cellars, blending a label-forward design with exceptional space efficiency. Rigorously tested in real cellar conditions, it offers meticulous craftsmanship that ensures both safety and a sophisticated presentation for your collection.
The PEG System by Genuwine Cellars exemplifies contemporary sophistication, offering exceptional design flexibility. Capable of creating unlimited design variations, the PEG System is the ideal solution for balancing your collection with contemporary design while providing versatile storage capacity within the cellar.
Most contemporary wine rooms combine glass with at least one natural material. A glass-enclosed wine room framed in bronze or black steel, lined in rift-cut oak, and lit from behind the labels is the most requested configuration. Concealed cooling and a sealed, insulated glass door hold the climate without interrupting the view. Where floor space is tight, the same approach scales down to a wine cellar under the stairs or a single contemporary wine wall.
Our designers work from your architectural drawings and finish schedule so the cellar matches the millwork, flooring and metal finishes already specified for the home.
A contemporary wine cellar is a long-term fixture of the house. We design it to age with the architecture rather than with a trend.
Contemporary wine cellar design starts with proportion. Racking is set to the bottle sizes you actually collect, display rows are placed at eye level, and bulk storage is kept lower and out of the sightline. Wood species, stain and metal finish are selected against samples from the home so that the cellar continues the palette of the adjoining rooms. Lighting is layered: warm LED behind label-forward rows, soft wash on the feature wall, and a single fixture over any tasting surface. The aim is a room that feels composed rather than engineered.
A contemporary wine room does not require a basement. Many of our most photographed installations are glass-fronted rooms off a dining area, a converted closet beside a kitchen, or an alcove under a staircase. In each case the racking is cable or metal where it faces the living space and wood where it carries the bulk of the collection, so the room is light to look at and dense in capacity. Climate control is concealed in the ceiling or an adjacent service space.
The materials are what separate contemporary from modern. Walnut, white oak and sapele are the most common woods; they are paired with blackened steel, bronze or brushed stainless for the metal elements, and with low-iron glass for walls and doors so the wood reads true in color. Stone or plaster feature walls are used where the cellar needs visual weight. All wood is hand-selected and finished in our own facility, and every finish is matched to a physical sample before manufacturing begins. For a leaner, all-glass-and-metal expression, see our modern wine cellars; for a fully millwork-driven room, our traditional wine cellars.

"First and foremost, I want to thank you and your team for all the hard work and effort. The cellar is nothing short of being WOW! You should ask your team to share some photos with you, but honestly, photos do not do it justice! Your installation team is as professional as they come, and the attention to detail they demonstrate is absolutely phenomenal. Please make sure to share this feedback with your crew and the company owner. If I were the owner, I would be extremely proud!"

What makes a contemporary wine cellar different, and how we design one for your home.
A contemporary wine cellar combines the clean lines and glass of modern design with natural materials, most often walnut or oak racking, metal accents and warm, layered lighting. It is designed to sit in the living areas of a home and to match the finishes of the surrounding rooms.
Modern wine cellars lean on glass, metal and minimal ornamentation. Contemporary wine cellars keep that geometry but introduce more wood, warmer tones and mixed finishes, so the room feels current without feeling austere. Many clients land between the two, and we design to the home rather than to a label.
Yes. Contemporary wine rooms are frequently built off dining rooms, in converted closets, under stairs or as a glass-fronted alcove. Each is a fully conditioned space with concealed cooling and an insulated glass door, so the location is a design choice rather than a limitation.
Walnut, white oak and sapele are the most common woods, paired with blackened steel, bronze or brushed stainless and low-iron glass. Stone or plaster feature walls are added where the cellar needs visual weight. All wood is hand-selected and finished in our own facility.
Design typically runs four to eight weeks, including 3D renderings and finish approval. Manufacturing and installation follow, with the overall timeline set by the scope of the room and the site schedule. Every cellar is built in-house and installed by our own team.
