Genuwine Cellars is a boutique design and build firm located in the heart of North America. With nearly 30 years of experience designing and building custom wine cellars around North America and the world, we are well-accustomed to working with project managers near and far. We have extensive experience working at a distance with other construction professionals from around the world, including New York, London and Beijing.
We are a service-oriented company
Communication can be accomplished via phone and/or email, and our Designers can arrange phone or video-chat conferences with you no matter your time zone.
While not required, site visits prior to the final installation can be arranged no matter your location.
NOTE: In general, the majority of site visits prior to final installation entail having our installation team come to your project site for the purposes of obtaining final field dimensions of your “prepared room” (i.e., insulated, vapor-barriered and finished).

All of our clients receive their own dedicated designer who will serve as their one-on-one point of contact through the entire design, build, installation and warranty phase.
From our methodical Wine Cellar Design Form (which allows uploading of design documents, floor plans, etc.), to our information-dense Wine Cellar Construction Guide to our Dimensioning Manual to our detailed Project Logistics Overview, we have crafted a number of support resources to assist and inform you at every step of the process.
International Case Study
Genuwine was contacted by a successful restaurant owner in Scotland, seeking a prominent wine feature for his steakhouse.
The owner filled out our Wine Cellar Design Form online, uploading the architectural plans of his planned renovation. Through the form, he listed his bottle capacity requirements; material and finish preferences; projected timeline; and preliminary budget. The form was emailed directly to our offices, and a copy emailed to the owner.
A Senior Designer at Genuwine contacted the client directly via telephone within one day of receiving his submission. After one day of phone tag, our designer and the client connected and the two engaged in a discussion that clarified the client’s objectives, desires and budget. The client submitted a design retainer and Genuwine began preparing a formal design presentation.
With information collected from the client, Genuwine’s Design Loft prepared a formal design presentation (Revision 0) and emailed it to the client approximately 5 days after their initial conversation. A phone call followed to walk the client through every element.
The client instantly fell in love with the design. Minor revisions were requested, and a formal line-itemed quote was prepared and explained via email and telephone.
In an effort to trim costs and meet project budgets (and given that the complexity of the installation was rather low), it was established that the client would have his contractor install the wine feature on site.
A new design and accompanying quote was prepared and the client signed off, sending the initial project deposit via wire transfer.
The client selected the following:
- Custom Label Ladder display with polished stainless steel rods;
- Walnut wood framing with lacquer finish; and
- Custom white acrylic light box with LED fluorescent tube lighting. (Note: lighting was selected to conform to European standards)
The client had his space readied for climate control and then sent final field dimensions of his space as per our Dimensioning Manual.
Genuwine then produced formal CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings of the project dictating the “to-the-millimeter” design, which was sent—and subsequently verified—by the client.
The project then entered the manufacturing phase. At every key juncture, updates were given as required and as requested.
Manufacturing turnaround on this project was approximately six weeks.
a) The client was under a very tight timeline corresponding to the re-opening of his restaurant.
How Genuwine addressed this challenge:
The intricacies and details of this design made a quick turnaround challenging. As with many of our custom projects, a degree of research and development was required, and in this case testing was performed for the construction of the custom light boxes using EU approved lighting supplies.
Ultimately, Genuwine was able to ship this project on time and on schedule by holding to a tight progress-orientated plan.
b) Client in Scotland was not set up to for customs clearance and could not receive an international shipment
How Genuwine addressed this challenge:
Genuwine assisted the client by providing customs clearance through its own carrier, which expedited the shipment by days and enabled the project to meet its deadline.
The client was extremely pleased with the final product. This is his testimonial:
“The wine racking system is perfect. Your product is the focal point of our bar for both patrons and passers by alike. In addition to this the overall quality and aesthetics of the display complements our design seamlessly.”
