Welcome to our weekly installment of "Wine Cellar of the Week"!
It seems that home design trends are steering further and further away from incorporating buffets and china cabinets within dining rooms. However, we all seem to be left with that niche in the wall that often sits empty with perhaps a few vases scattered about on some floating shelves.
Want a better use of that space?
Think wine cellar! At the Genuwine Cellars Design Loft, we love transforming these small unused nooks into beautiful showpieces for any wine collection. Many people think that you need to allocate a whole room in their house to accomodate a wine cellar, but here's a great way to use up smaller spaces that may not be used as efficiently as they could. This project was a perfect example of how we were able to provide the clients with a stunning, climate controlled cellar right in their dining room.
No space is too small!

As you can see from the set of drawings below, no space is too small to incorporate a wine cellar. The clients are people who love to entertain. Their main floor is an open-concept space, where the kitchen, the living room and the dining room all flow very well together. A perfect area to entertain guests! Their ultimate goal was to be able to showcase their wine collection where everyone would be able to see it. By utilizing the dining room's buffet niche, we didn't have to take up any of the living area's footprint. At about 2' deep, were able to install sleek and modern Vintage View metal racking, 3 bottles deep. In the end, the clients were able to store just over 300 bottles of wine.

Not only is this a beautiful showpiece for their wine collection, but it's also a proper climate controlled environment so that each of the bottles can age appropriately. As the space is quite small, the perfect cooling unit that we recommended was the Kool R Plus. Small enough to incorporate into the door frame design and poweful enough to cool the entire space perfectly. The condensate line actually drains into an empty wine bottle placed at the top of the racking, and the client often finds this becomes quite the conversation piece (after the wine collection and cellar themselves of course)!

And as with every Architectural Series wine cellar, you have the option of choosing and matching your own finish for the wood. In this case, the clients really wanted to compliment their beautiful wooden dining table which was cut from an entire tree trunk! To help enhance the distressed feel of the table, we matched the door and frame wood stain to the knots and crevasses. Such a simple and stunning dining room, it truly has become the centerpiece of the house!

Stay tuned next week for another featured wine cellar!
